How Does a Heat Pump Work?

A heat pump works by transferring heat rather than generating it. Using refrigerant and a compressor system, it moves heat from one place to another to provide both heating and cooling.
During warmer months, the system functions like an air conditioner. It extracts heat from inside the building and releases it outdoors, helping maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.
In colder months, the process reverses. The heat pump pulls heat from the outside air — even in low temperatures — and transfers it indoors. This efficient heat transfer process allows one system to provide year-round climate control.
